Program Description
The Carpentry program exposes students to all phases of erecting buildings. Students learn skills such as using tools safely and properly, site surveying, laminating, joinery, finishing, and working with wood products, building codes, blueprint reading, structural framing, drywall application, and door/window installation. Upon completion of the program, students may specialize in specific phases of the building industry such as doors, windows, sidings, or roofing.

Employment/Career Opportunities
Students may find employment on survey crews, as fence installers or acoustical ceiling mechanics. Graduates from this program have worked as framers, custom home builders, custom stair mechanics, and cabinet shop workers.

Salaries for graduates range from $12.75-$20.38 per hour.

What are students qualified to do after graduation?
Most graduates begin as a carpenter's helper. The local apprenticeship programs usually consider our graduates as second year apprentices, depending on the individual.
Our graduates are exposed to all facets of residential construction which includes the basics of blueprint reading, leveling instruments, forming, floor-wall-roof framing, trimming interiors & exteriors, shingling, door hanging, and stairs.
How are the local job opportunities?
Jobs are plentiful in framing, trimming, stair building, metal framing & sheetrock. Specialized areas include fence erection, window installation and punch out.
What are the possibilities of graduates starting their own businesses?
Graduates who have a good business plan, four to five years field experience, and proper licensing can start their own businesses.
How do graduates acquire their contractor's license?
Contractor's licenses now require 4 - 5 years field experience with written recommendation from three contractors. Applicants must pass a test in their chosen specialty area e.g. sub-contractor, specialty contractor, residential contractor, building contractor, or general contractor.
