CASAS (Reading and Math) Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Scores: 244 in Reading, 608 Language and 241 Math OR meet TABE exemption (refer to Admissions and Testing)

Program Description 

The Accounting Operations program offers a sequence of courses that provide coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers.  The program provides technical skill proficiency, competency-based applied learning that contributes to academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving, work ethics, general employability skills, and occupationally-specific knowledge. 

The content includes double-entry accounting principles; methods of recording business transactions; preparation and analysis of various documents and financial statements; payroll records and tax forms; accounting control systems; account and transaction analysis; inventory methods; the aging process; depreciation; and the application of accounting principles to various entities. Students learn both manual and computerized accounting systems.

Microsoft Office software packages are used in this program and QuickBooks Certification exam with online practice.

Employment/Career Opportunities
Career opportunities include accountant assistant, full-charge bookkeeper, accounts receivable/accounts payable clerk, accounting clerk, payroll clerk, data operator, inventory clerk and audit clerk.

Salaries for graduates range from $11.51-$18.48 per hour.

What computer-related skills are covered?
Students learn automated accounting when using QuickBooks, which includes departmental purchases, cash payments, sales, cash receipts, payroll data, depreciation, and financial statement analysis procedures. Microsoft Office  (Word, PowerPoint, Excel & Access) are also utilized to aid in preparation of reports, presentations, and data management. 

What are the proficiency standards for the keyboarding and ten-key calculator?
Graduates must be able to key 225 digits per minute on the calculator.

Will the program specifically help me run my own business or enter into a partnership?
Yes. The Accounting Operations program will be an asset to your own business or entering a partnership.

Are online classes available?
No, however, students are able to work on and off campus with internet Access.

Is job placement available upon graduation?
